Grover Talmadge Palmer, Jr., 79, of Crisfield, Md., died September 25, 2018, at Atlantic General Pulmonary Clinic in Berlin, Md.
Mr. Palmer was born on April 21, 1939, in Cuthbert, Georgia, to the late Grover Talmadge Palmer, Sr. and Eunice Burgay Palmer.Other than his parents, his sister, Thelma Palmer Dews, has just passed away on November 3, 2019.
Mr. Palmer graduated from Edison High School in 1957. He served as a medic in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia Pharmacy School in 1966. He worked as a pharmacist in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Crisfield, Maryland.
Survivors include a cousin Elizabeth Bryan of Homestead, Florida, and three nephews and one niece: Alton Lovell Dews, Jr. and his wife Cornelia of Mechanicsville, Virginia; David Palmer Dews of Boise, Idaho; Steven Kirk Dews of Atlanta; Catherine Dews Dorrien and husband Brian of Dunwoody, Georgia; and five great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends knew Grover to be a generous and adventurous man. He opened his doors to each of his three nephews for extended periods of time when they were young adults, giving them the support they needed at a critical time in their lives.Grover was very loyal to his many friends, and they were good to him. He was affectionately known as "GT" by most people who knew him, though one of his close friends always addressed him as "Grovette," noting his life-long fondness for Corvettes that began with his 1957 Corvette. He traveled widely, loved dogs, and often commented that all one needed to do was watch squirrels frolic in the yard to know that God is real.
Grover's family wishes to thank the many good people of Crisfield, Maryland, who extended many kindnesses to him over the last few years when his health began to deteriorate. Also, we are grateful to Jerry and Sandra Hicks of Ellijay, Georgia, who recently hosted Grover in their home for many months and continued to offer their love and support for the remainder of his life.
A Memorial Graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Edison, Georgia with Rev. Keith Gaines officiating.
