Wilburn Eugene “Gene” McGlamory passed on from this life and went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born in Langdale, Alabama, grew up in Belle Glade, Florida, and lived most of his life in Blakely, Georgia. Gene was affectionately known as PaPa and loved to share stories of his over 40 years of long-haul trucking driving. He received many safety awards with no accidents, no speeding tickets, and over 5 million miles driven. He faithfully served his country in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. He loved listening to Hank Williams and Porter Wagoner and enjoyed watching old Western movies. He was considered to be a WWE wrestling aficionado. PaPa never met a stranger and was easy to love. He was a simple man who loved God and his family and sacrificed until his last day to care for them. He would tell anyone who would listen that the love of his life, Betty, was his best friend and they shared over 60 years of marriage together. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Love McGlamory; his daughter, Melinda; his son, Gary (Alicia); his grandchildren, Miranda (Fred), Garrett (Julia), Alex, and Weldon; his brother, Eddie (Linda). He was preceded in death by his father, William Edward McGlamory, and his mother Margaret and step-mother Claire, as well as his brother Earl and sister Mary Jane. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 15. from 2:00 until 3:00 pm EST at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 pm EST with Reverend Jimmy Love and Gary McGlamory officiating.
