Walter Eugene (Salt) Monfort, 93, of Arlington, GA, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 13, 2016. His funeral will be held Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2:30 PM in the Arlington Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Hadden officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Church from 1:30 PM until funeral time at 2:30.
Mr. Monfort was born in Arlington, GA& on Jan. 9, 1923 to the late Wiley M. Monfort and Alice Mae Johnson Monfort. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Arlington Baptist Church. Mr .Salt, as most knew him, was an active member of his community. He was a Deacon and taught Sunday School Classes at the Church for many years. He loved God, his family, fishing, hunting, raising hunting dogs, baseball (The Braves), and watching funny videos on TV. He exemplified the southern gentleman; whistling rather than swearing if he was upset for example. He always had a story or a joke to tell. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean conflict. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Pearl White Monfort, his daughter, Barbara Ann Monfort Blake, a brother, Alex Monfort and 2 sisters: Annie Kathren Betton and Lucille Raulerson.
His survivors include 2 granddaughters: Camille B. Kaserman and Joshua of Lexington, KY, Kathryn E.B. Skidmore & Daniel of Upper Marlboro, MD, a grandson, Dillard Robert (Bob) Eugene Blake and Julia Ann Schonberg of Aurora, CO. Salt also had many nieces and nephews.
