It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vida Williams McDaniel. She peacefully passed away at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, at the age of 90. Vida was born in Early County on Friday, January 19th, 1934 to Foy and Fannie Mae Williams. She attended and graduated from Blakely Union High School. Vida worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Phillip Spence for many years, before his move. She spent the later part of her career as a Food Service Director with the Georgia Prison System. She started work at Lee Correctional and later transferred to Calhoun Correctional, where she retired from. Her commitment to her work and the people she served was a testament to her caring nature and strong work ethic. Vida was a member of the Liberty Assembly of God Church, where she found joy and solace in her community. She loved to travel with family and friends and enjoyed crocheting many things for her grandchildren. Reading was also a favorite pastime, but working in her yard was her very favorite pastime and therapy. Any tree, bush or flower was the “prettiest.” Because of her love of flowers, all are accepted in her honor. Vida is survived by her son, Ronnie Riley (Nancy), and daughter, Dianne Riley Harris. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren, Melanie Riley, Gina Riley, and Jennifer Hagan Parker (Mark). Her great-grandchildren, Justin Mauldin, Jackson Parker, and Riley Parker, will carry forward her memory and the values she instilled in them. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Williams (Sondra). Vida was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Juanita Williams Davis, Carolyn Williams Howell, Patsy Williams Holt, Martin "Red" Williams, and Matthew Ray Williams. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Jimmy Harris, and C.E “Red” Riley, the father of her children. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Garrett and Dr. Alex Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 AM prior to services. Pallbearers being asked to serve are Andy Woods, Thad McGowan, Randall Williams, Paul Williams, Billy Lanford, William Davis, and Josh Gleaton. The family would like to thank Georgia Hospice Care, Willie Mae Reed, Amilda Kegler, Jennifer Gray, and Edna Weeks for the loving care that was shown to Vida at this difficult time. Vida Williams McDaniel will be remembered for the love she shared with all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home.
