Thelma Evans Houston, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, December 13, 2019 at her residence. Her funeral will be held Monday morning, December 16, 2019 at 11 AM at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Yancey Hartman officiating along with family members, Craig Houston, Julie Houston and Mark Houston sharing memories. Burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery with Rev. Mac Enfinger and Scott Houston speaking. The family will receive friends and family for visitation at 10 AM prior to the service at 11 AM. Pallbearers will be Graham Harvin, Jimmy Helton, Hunter Evans, Tony Strickland, Brett Houston and Mal Freeman.
Mrs. Houston was born in Jakin Georgia on July 4, 1929 to the late Nathan Elzie Evans and Evie Jane Pyle Evans. She graduated from Jakin High School. She was the Manager of Corner I Apparel Store in Blakely for many years before her retirement and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blakely. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Chester Houston and a brother, Everett Evans.
Her survivors include her 2 sons: Craig Houston and Julie of Columbia, SC;Scott Houston and Susan of Hoover, AL; a brother, Vinson Evans and Janice of Jakin, GA; 3 grandchildren: Mark Houston and Ashley of Chapin, SC; Lauren Wilson and Add of Beaufort, SC; Greg Houston, Jr. and Stephanie of Houston, TX; and 6 great-grandchildren: Addison Willson, III, Houston Wilson, Emily Ruth Wilson, Evans Houston, Mae Caroline Houston and Tripp Houston. The 7th great-grandchild, Merritt Elizabeth Houston is soon to be born in Houston,Texas!
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 667, Blakely, GA 39823.
