Steve Hattaway of Blakely, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love. Born on January 1, 1953, to Jack Powell and Jean Nelson Hattaway in Blakely, Steve grew up in Bluffton working alongside his family on their farm. In 1980, Steve embarked on a new entrepreneurial journey, opening Peanuts Skate Center in Dothan and later expanding to a second location in Blakely. After selling the skating rinks, he returned to his agricultural roots, farming and later operating a trenching and irrigation business until his retirement. Steve found joy in hunting, fishing, poker night with his buddies, and spending time with his family. Known for his gentle nature, kindness, and unwavering generosity, Steve was always the peacemaker, greeting everyone with a smile. He was always content and maintained a positive outlook throughout the peaks and valleys of his life. Steve is survived by his daughters Anna Scott (Matt) and Abby Hattaway; grandchildren Cole, Sawyer, and Ali Scott; siblings Nelson Hattaway (Libby), Julie Hinson (Robert), and Cliff Hattaway (Denise); numerous nieces and nephews; the mother of his children Diane Fendley; and his lifelong friend Lodge Holman. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Miller Nursing Home and Georgia Hospice Care for their dedicated support during Steve's final journey. A service remembering Steve’s life will be held at Bluffton Baptist Church on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and lunch at the Community House immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bluffton Baptist Church, Georgia Hospice Care, or Samaritan’s Purse.
