Sara Pipkin King

Sara Pipkin King, Blakely, Ga. died at her residence Wednesday evening, November 22, 2017. Her funeral service will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Blakely with Rev. Richard M. Williams, grandson-in-law and Rev. Keith Alderman officiating. Burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery. The family will receive friends for an hour long visitation starting at 1:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary. Serving as pallbearers are her grandchildren: Phil H.Lashley, Hamilton Evins King, Joe Helenihi, Evan Helenihi and friends Steve Mills and Dan Judd. Honorary pallbearers will be Oswald Harris King, IV and Eastern Star members.

Mrs. King was born on December 14, 1920 in Blakely, GA to the late Fred W. Pipkin and Eva Bethea Pipkin (MaPip), She grew up in the Colomokee Community but lived most of her adult life in Blakely. She enjoyed the life of a farmer's wife and always had a green thumb where plants were concerned. Mrs. King and her husband enjoyed many get-togethers playing set back and canaster. In addition, they entertained friends and family and celebrated special occasions in their "little red house", with fish fries, cook outs and good food. Mrs. Sara and her husband, Mr. O. H. were known far and wide for their King's Krunch peanut brittle which they made and shared with family and friends for more than fifty years. She also enjoyed family, helping others, reading, making pickles, pear relish and putting up vegetables and watching the Braves. She could be counted on to always come to the rescue of her family and friends when she was needed. Mrs. King attended Colomokee School, Union High School and Georgia Southwestern College.

She was a member of the Blakely Chapter # 282 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a Past Matron, and several star points as well as the Past Grand Martha for the State of Georgia. Mrs. King was a member for over 70 years and was also a member of the DAR. She began attending First Baptist Church when she was married and moved to Blakely. She was a member for over 75 years and was a member of the Dorcus Sunday School Class.

Mrs. King is survived by three children: Dr. Gail King Nesbitt of Cordele, GA, Joan King Lashley and Chuck of Cuthbert, GA, and Dr. O. H. "Sonny" King, III and Mallie of Spartanburg, SC; and 7 grandchildren: Phil Lashley and Cyndi of Hudson, OH, Dee Nesbitt Williams and Richard of Cordele, GA, Tom Nesbitt and Jennifer of York, PA, Kelly King Helenihi and Joe of Palm Harbor, FL, Harris King and Rachel of Easley, SC, Elizabeth King of Athens, GA, Hamilton King of New York, NY; 12 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. King, Jr., one brother: John Andrew Pipkin; one sister: Jean Pipkin Settles; and two grandsons: Charles D. Lashley, Jr and Harris McGregor (Greg) Nesbitt.
