Richard Leon Coates, 89, of 80 Mt. Calvary Rd., Ft. Gaines, GA, passed away Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at his residence. His funeral will be held at the Bethel Baptist Church Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11 AM with Garrett Davis officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation starting at 10 AM in the social hall.Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery with Joe King, Bill Cleveland, Chris Coates, Steve Anderson, Tony Gentry and Lamar Willis serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Coates was born on December 22, 1928 in Shorterville, AL to the late Posa Lee Coates and Ruby Lillian Killebrew Coates. He was a retired farmer and of the Protestant Faith. Other than his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Nell Weems Coates and two brothers; Dr. Eugene Graham Coates and Harold Dean Coates, 1 granddaughter, Morgan Lynn Hunt, 2 great grandsons; Collier and Isaac Davis.

His survivors include a daughter; Sharon C. Hunt and Gary of Blakely, GA, 2 sons: Richard Leon Coates, Jr. and Pam of Ft. Gaines, GA and William Brent Coates and Shirley of Albany, GA. There are 6 grandchildren; Nathan and Anna Hunt of Blakely, GA, Kerri C. McDaniel and Jess of Ft. Gaines, GA, Jonathan Coates of Albany, GA, Amy Davis and Garrett of Andalusia, AL, Kade Coates of Albany, GA and 5 Great Grandchildren: Zoey, Jace and Jodi McDaniel, Griffin and Alex Davis.
