Phyllis McLendon Smith, 85, of 573 NW Dogwood Ave., Arlington, GA, passed away shortly before midnight on October 25, 2019, at Manor Lake Bridgemill Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Canton, GA. Her funeral will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at 3:00 pm in the Arlington Baptist Church with Rev. N. Shelton "Shelly" Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation starting at 1:30 pm Sunday until 2:50 pm in the church social hall. Burial will follow in the Christ Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hank Jester, Will Jester, Mike Newberry, Randy Adams, Dan Harris, John Davis, Bill Stone and John Hatcher. Butch Kaminsky will be an honorary pallbearer.
"Miss Phyllis" was born on November 7, 1933, in Calhoun County, GA, to the late Leland E. McLendon and the late Emma Stone McLendon. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. P. "Dub" Smith, Jr., and sister Bobbye Lou McLendon Ditty.
Phyllis taught English for one year. Then she gladly accepted her position as stay-at-home wife, mother, and general accountant for all of the family farming operations. She was a caseworker with Department of Family and Children's Services in Calhoun County. She also operated Frames by Phyllis for 30 years before retiring.
Phyllis is survived by: Betty Jo "BJ" S. Greer of Kennesaw, GA, Tony Smith and his wife Bev, of Arlington, GA, Dr. Ann S. Holland and her husband John Barry, of Port Arthur, TX. She also has a brother, Marcus McLendon, of Louisville, GA.
Her 7 grandchildren are: Leigh Greer, Joanna Smith, Maria Greer Goodwin, Savannah Smith Dunson, Karen Greer Hunter, Anthony Holland, and Carter Holland.
Her 3 great grandchildren are: Sawyer Dunson, Levi Hunter and William Goodwin.
