Philip H. Spence

Philip H. Spence, DDS, passed away at age 101 on February 14, 2022 after a three month stay at Lynn Haven Nursing Home. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Blakely Cemetery with Dr. Alex Howell officiating. Dr. Spence was a Blakely, Georgia native and the son of A.C. and Mattie Spence, having lived in Milledgeville since 1967. A member of the greatest generation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and flew 50 combat missions as copilot of a B-24 Bomber in the European Theatre. He graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1951 and practiced privately and for the State of Georgia for 34 years. He retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1971 with the rank of Major. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Milledgeville. He was predeceased by Aurelia Spence, his wife of 47 years; brothers, Elton Lane, Carl, Bill, and Norman Spence; and sisters, Marjorie Mueller and June Spence. Mr. Spence is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and good friends. The family requests that Memorial Donations be made to First Baptist Church, 330 S. Liberty Street, Milledgeville, Georgia, 31061.
