Peggy Jane Chandler, 78, passed away November 24, 2021, at Lenbrook Assisted Living, Atlanta, Ga.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Blakely Cemetery.
Michael Mansfield will be officiating.
Ms. Chandler was born in Blakely, Ga. on August 25, 1943, to the late Fred Hand and Minnie Brightwell Chandler.She graduated from Blakely Union High School where she was a member of the Bobcat women's varsity basketball team.She received state recognition for highest point scores leading to championship victories for the Bobcats. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Valdosta State College.
She discovered early in her life a passion for the outdoors, horses, and sports. She was known for her wit, adventurous spirit and compassion for those in need. She treasured family traditions and enjoyed singing the old-time hymns she learned in church. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services in Early County after serving over 30 years in Child and Adult Protective and Social Services in Florida and Georgia.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Almon Warren Chandler, two sisters, Virginia Chandler Farish and Debra Ann Chandler.She is survived by a sister, Winnie Chandler Mansfield LeClercq, and special nieces and nephews, Jim Farish, Sandy Farish, John Mansfield, Jr., Jenny Hager, Michael Mansfield, Connie Mixon and Sherrie Douglas.
