Olin Fletcher Thompson, Jr. died after a short illness on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. He was 78. Born at home on January 24, 1944 to the late Mary Louise Wiley Thompson and Olin Fletcher Thompson Sr.; he was a lifelong resident of Blakely, GA. He was a graduate of Blakely High School and the University of Georgia. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Willard DuBose Thompson, for 56 years. He is survived by his children Laura Thompson Miles and her husband Bob, Olin Fletcher Thompson, III and his wife Jennifer and Willard DuBose Thompson and his wife Amelia along with beloved grandchildren Martha Thompson Miles, Willard Emmett Miles, Mary DuBose Miles, Olin Fletcher Thompson, IV, James Frederick Thompson, Lenna Louise Thompson, Owen DuBose Thompson and Willard Luke Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings Glyndell Thompson George and her husband Jim and Robert Linton Thompson and his wife Carol as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church, he served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the choir. He was also a soloist for many musical events, worship services, weddings and funerals. He loved the Lord and his family with all his heart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and was an avid golfer, having won awards including “Best Golfer in State” as a young man. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Potentate for the Hasan Shrine Temple. Pallbearers are Johnny Allen, Ronnie Ashley, Cliff Bush, Ken Payton, Don Phillips, Eddie Martin, Billy Peters, and Sam Robinson. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons and choir members of First Baptist Church, Blakely. Graveside services (open to public) will be held at The Blakely Cemetery at 10am on Friday, June 17, 2022 with a celebration of life (open to public) to follow at First Baptist Church in Blakely. The family will receive friends following the ceremony in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
