Obie Joan Herndon

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 11 AM EDT at Beulah Baptist Church in Cedar Springs, Ga. Burial will follow in the Herndon Cemetery in Carr, Fl. (Clarksville, Fl.) at 3 PM EDT and 2 PM CST. Visitation will be held on Monday night from 6-8 PM at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely. Rev. Boyd Evans. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Preston, Jackson Preston, Lane Wilson, Billy Wilson, Kenneth Smith,Greg Mayo, Phillip Evans, Chris Allums and Rick Spikes. Honorary pallbearers will beGeorge Wilson, Joe Wilson, Jill Wilson, Roy Evans, Donald Bruner, Andrea Wilson and William Cleveland.
Mrs. Herndon was born November 16, 1940 in Blountstown, Fl. to the late John Obadiah Richards and Nellie Ethel Kelley Barbee Richards. She was baptized on Oct. 29, 1950 at the age of 10. She later becamea member of Beulah Baptist Church on January 1, 1964 where she served her church for 55 years. She was akey punch operator as a young adult at the paper mill from 1963 to 1964 then a wonderful wife and mother from 1965 up until her death. She also served as Voter Registrar for our area in Early Co. She loved researching genealogy,cooking for company, loved gardening, putting up vegetables and making jelly. She taught Sunday School for many years at Beulah Baptist Church and loved every child has her own. She was dedicated to loving others and serving Christ .Other than her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers; Herman Barbree, Brownee Barbee and Dena Merl Babree and by two sisters;Winifred Cain and Vivian Scott.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Henry Vernon Herndon of Cedar Springs, Ga. a son; Jeff Herndon and wife Christine of Dothan, Al. and their children Elizabeth and Sarah and by a daughter; Jennifer Herndon Preston and husband Scott of Rome, Ga. and their children Emily and Jackson.
