Merlene English

Merlene English, 76 of Blakely, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at her sons’ residence. Mrs. English was born on October, 7, 1947 in Early County, GA to the late Joe Ceaborn Murkerson and Lura Davis Murkerson. She was a retired Paraprofessional with the Early County School System. She attended the Blakely First Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member for numerous years. She married Charles Elliot English in 1967. He preceded her in death in 2021. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maggie English. Survivors include her children, Charlie English (Michelle), Henry English (Kristy), and Susan Riley (Dalton) all of Blakely. Grandchildren: Shelley English Goocher (Mason) and Elliot English both of Blakely. Mrs. English is also survived by a brother, Joe Murkerson (Harriet) of Bainbridge, sisters, Linda Averitt and Brenda Murkerson, sister-in-law Janis Kelly (Ed), all of Blakely and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Bush Cemetery with Brother Royce Horn officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blakely First Free Will Baptist Church. Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
