After a lengthy hospital stay, Melissa passed from this world, while being held by her mother Wanda.
Melissa was born on October 22, 1973, to Jerry and Wanda Stokes in Clermont, FL.
Melissa graduated from Plant City High School and then attended Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, FL.
Melissa's greatest joy in life was singing and playing the piano to serve the Lord and Savior. Melissa's life revolved around her church and church family.
Another great joy in Melissa's life was her love for children. Even though she never had children of her own, Melissa loved many young and old as if they were her own. Will and Chase held a special place in her heart as did her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Melissa enjoyed sharing her talents with others. Melissa loved crafting and was extremely talented in the art of calligraphy. Whether it was a simple or difficult task, Melissa only wanted to bring joy to others and to help others.
Melissa is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Stokes, and both paternal and maternal grandparents.Melissa is survived by her mother and stepfather, Wanda and Mark Winslett, her brother Chris Stokes(Sarah), stepsisters Terri McFay (Greg), Cindy Coronado, Callie Thompson (Travis), stepbrother Mark Winslett Jr., many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Melissa loved fiercely and deeply. We take comfort in knowing Melissa is now out of pain and is now at home in the loving arms of her beloved father along with her Lord and Savior.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 11 a. m. Southside Baptist Church in Blakely, Ga. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at 10 until 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Southside Baptist Church for the piano fund. Any donations made will be done so in memory of Melissa's passionate love of music.
