Mavis M. Johnson, 88, of Arlington, GA, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Flowers hospital of Dothan, AL.Her funeral will be held
Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Arlington Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Hadden officiating.Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery with Larry Worsley, Mike Stuart, Scott Cochran, Will Jester, Hank Jester and Billy Strickland serving as active pallbearers.Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Arlington Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 p.m. unto 1:50 p.m. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Will Johnson; 2 brothers, Orville and Olin Miller.
Mavis was born on July 21, 1930 in Frostproof, FL to the late Jerry and Demi Miller.She was a member of the Arlington Baptist Church, she was a retired English teacher for the Calhoun School System for 30 years having received her Master's Degree from Valdosta State College, for 50 years she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Women Educators. She was a former City Councilwoman for the City of Arlington.
Her survivors include an adopted daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Chief Lassister and their girls Katherine and Anna Lassister. Ethel Johnson of Arlington is her sister-in-lawShe also claimed as her girls members of the Ruth's Reapers Sunday School Class that she taught for 60 years.
