Martha Pritchett Moore

August 12, 1941 — August 5, 2024

Martha Pritchett Moore, 83, of Blakely, Ga., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024, after an extended illness. Martha was born on August 12, 1941, to A.L. “Red” Pritchett and Eleanor Strickland Pritchett in Early County, Ga., where she was a lifetime resident. In 1958, Martha married the love of her life, Phillip Moore, and they began a life together that would span more than six decades. During their marriage, she worked as a ward clerk at Early Memorial Hospital, as one of the original “lunchroom ladies” at Southwest Georgia Academy, and as a bus driver for both Early County and SGA. Although there were times she worked outside the home, the jobs of wife to Phillip, mother to Phyllis and Phil, and homemaker were her favorite titles, to say nothing of her favorite and most affectionate title of “Granny.” Martha loved fishing, going to auctions, collecting pretty much anything, making quilts and growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Anyone who knew her knew she loved her family supremely. She served them well in so many ways, not the least of which was through her cooking. She and Phillip welcomed countless members of the family and community to eat and fellowship at the “Cuba Zoo” pond house through the years. Martha Moore was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Blakely from the time she made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at a young age until her death. At the time of her passing she was one of the two longest standing members of First Baptist Church. Through the years, she served the church in many capacities, but she is remembered most for the more than 20 years she was one of the cooks for Wednesday night suppers. Martha is survived by her husband, Phillip; daughter Phyllis Moseley of Eatonton, Ga.; son Phillip (Cindy) Moore Jr., also of Eatonton; seven grandchildren, Trip (Haley) Moseley of Blakely, Will (Laura) Moseley also of Blakely, Joey (Korie) Moseley of Coleman, Ga., Mahannah (Mitchell) Patterson of Perry, Ga., Trey Moore, Tyler Moore and TJ Moore, all of Eatonton; nine great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Baylor, Bryce, Brady, Dalton, Kamden and Bowen Moseley, and JB and Anna Patterson; brother, John (Barbara) Pritchett of Georgetown, Ga., and sisters, Carolyn (Hal) Gleaton and Betty Goocher both of Blakely. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children, Joseph Spencer and Tony Allen Moore; great grandson, Dallas Moseley; and brother, Lamar Pritchett. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Johnny Dixon Sunday School class. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 6 until 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Blakely. The funeral service will be Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the same location with Rev. Lyle Brackin and Rev. Chris Guffey officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Blakely in memory of Martha. Manry-Jordan-Hodges is in charge of the arrangements.
