Marie B. Phillips, 82, of Blakely passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at Southeast Health in Dothan, Al. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Blakely, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Chris Guffey will be officiating. Mrs. Phillips was born in Sumter, SC to the late McLoy and Helen King Bennett. She is also predeceased by brothers, Woodrow Bennett and Carroll Bennett. She married her husband of 60 years, Donald Lamar Phillips, in Waycross, Ga on August 16, 1963. Mrs. Phillips was a retired school teacher, having taught at Southwest Georgia Academy for 29 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blakely where she was active on the Benevolence and Flowers Committee. She is survived by her husband Donald L. Phillips, children Gaye Stewart(Robby) of Loganville, Ga. and Don Phillips, Jr.(Gina) of Arlington Ga., grandchildren, Hamill Stewart(Jordan), Gunnar Stewart, Slater Stewart, Addie Phillips, Ash Phillips, and Ally Meg Phillips, and great grandchild Shep Stewart. Mrs. Phillips is also survived by sisters Linda Wilbor(Tom) of Matthews, NC and Connie Wheeler of Alma, Ga, and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southwest Georgia Academy, in Damascus, Ga., in memory of Marie B. Phillips.
