Mrs. Margaret Bruner Stokes, 103, passed away February 14, 2022, at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, AL following a brief illness.A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, February 16, 2022 at 2 PM in the Enterprise Baptist Church Cemetery (338 Enterprise Road, Edison, GA) with Dr. Alex Howell and Rev. Lyle Brackin officiating.Pallbearers will be Chet Stokes, Tommy Smith, Bill Hobbs, James Moore, Olin Thompson, Sam Clinkscales, Ron Hutchins, and Jack Sanders.
Mrs. Stokes was born on July 20, 1918, in Randolph County Georgia to the late George Washington Bruner and Cora Lee McKinnon Bruner.After graduating from Andrew College, she taught school at the former Damascus High School.She later worked many years as bookkeeper for Gray Jewelry and then at the office of Dr. Hamp Clarke.In her early years, she was very active in her church life at Enterprise Baptist Church.After marrying Eugene Chester Stokes and moving to Blakely, she became a very active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Blakely.
She is survived by her son, Chester Stokes, Jr. an his wife Lynda of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, her grandson, Chester (Chet) Stokes, 111 and his wife Taylore of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.She is also survived by her step grandchildren, Tommy Smith
and his daugher Blaire, Bill and Katie Hobbs and their sons Winston and Hank, James and Leah Moore and their daughters Anna and Lily and Virginia Crenshaw.
Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Bruner and 2 brothers, Edward L. (Bub) Bruner, and Marcus Delano Bruner.
Ms. Margaret was blessed to live a long and wonderful life.Although, many of her loved ones and friends had passed on, she still had a multitude of friends who helpedfill her time with regular visits, phone calls, flowers, cards and letters.
