John Olin Newberry Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. Born on Friday, October 27th, 1944, in Avon Park, Florida, Olin was a treasured resident of Arlington, Georgia, where he was raised on a farm in Baker County. Olin was a man defined by his unwavering work ethic, passion, and dedication to both his family and his career. Olin spent his life working in food sales, building a remarkable career that culminated in his role as Regional Sales Manager at Jones Dairy Farm. He was known for his tireless drive and professionalism, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. For him, work was more than a job – it was a way to provide for his family. Outside of his career, Olin was a devoted husband of 61 years to his beloved high school sweetheart, Ginger Gleaton. As Papa, he relished creating fun times for his grandchildren. Whether sharing a tall tale around the dinner table, pulling grandkids behind the boat on innertubes at the lake, setting up backyard water slides, moving his daughters to different cities all across the U.S., or offering words of wisdom, he was a steady presence, always leading by example. His legacy of hard work, caring for friends, and love for family was only surpassed by his devotion to his faith. Olin was a Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Snellville, GA. Olin demonstrated his generous heart and commitment to others by serving meals to the community and church throughout his life and in recent years, as a proud member of Arlington Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginger” Gleaton Newberry, and his children, Jennifer Newberry Booker (Brent) of McKinney, TX, Alison Newberry Tomlinson (John) of Greensboro, NC, and Madison Victoria Newberry of Arlington, GA. Olin was a proud grandfather to Courtney Booker Gillis (Jordan), Josh Booker, Abby Tomlinson Lewis (Jordan), Daroyl and Christian Askew, Jenny Tomlinson Creed (Nick), and a doting great-grandfather to Everett Creed (4 months old). Olin is also survived by his siblings, Hal Newberry (Vicki), Robert Newberry (Cindy), James Newberry, and Jean Bostwick (Turner), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Olin Newberry and Barbara Jean Newberry, and his daughter, Jill Newberry Askew. A memorial service to celebrate Olin’s life will be held at Arlington Baptist Church on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 11:00 am, officiated Dr. Van Power with the message delivered by Pastor Preston Bostwick. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at the church from 10:15 am to 10:45 am on the same day.
