John Wayne Fariss Sr.

John Wayne Fariss, Sr , 79 of Blakely, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at his home. Johnny was born on December 1, 1943 in Blakely, to John William (Bill) and Augusta Hammack Fariss. He graduated from Blakely Union High School with the Class of 1961. After high school he served in the Marine Corps Reserves for six years. Johnny retired from Georgia Pacific in 2006 after working 40 years in technical services. He was a member of Blakely First Methodist Church. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Billy Fariss, Donald Fariss, and Stephen Fariss(infant), and 2 sisters, Peggy Sellers and Gayle Bechard. Survivors include his wife of almost 57 years, Judy Evans Fariss, son John (Chip) Fariss (Debbie), St. Augustine, Fl, and daughter Michelle Fariss Baker (Chris), Blakely, Ga., three grandchildren, Courtney Floyd (Jon), Cuthbert, Ga., Zac Floyd (Sumer), Virginia Beach, Va., and Will Floyd, Blakley, Ga., four great grandchildren, Axom, Henley, and Stetson Floyd, Cuthbert, Ga and baby Harper Floyd, Virginia Beach, Va. due in October. He is also survived by a brother Carl Fariss (Barbara) Louisville, Ky and a sister Kay Cole, San Antonio, Tx., many nieces and nephews and special friends Blake Phillips, Shelby and Paisley Floyd. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2PM at Blakely First Methodist Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1PM - 2PM at the church.
