James "Jim" Donald Netherton of Blakely, Ga., went to be home with Jesus on Thursday afternoon, December 3, 2020. He was a gentle, hardworking man of faith and a person of great integrity. A truly beautiful human being and role model for his family. He showed fierce loyalty to his family and was a true provider.
Jim (81) was born in Jameson, Missouri to Virgil E. and Helen Netherton. He was one of five siblings and was brought up with a deep love of family, which he maintained throughout his life.
Jim loved the outdoors and could build, fix, and grow just about anything. He and Mary loved daylilies and they became some of the best hybridizers in the state. Together, they ran Peace on Earth Gardens and we have their flowers as a legacy that will live on forever. Jim enjoyed playing tennis when he was younger and later in life enjoyed watching his grandsons play.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Mary Netherton of Blakely; two daughters, Gayle Copenhaver (Bruce) and their daughter, Amanda Copenhaver, of Lexington, Missouri and Heidi Gonzalez (Tom) and their three son, Tristan Williams, Julian Gonzalez, & Lleyton Gonzalez, of Valdosta, GA; two sons, Jeff Netherton (Linda) and their two daughters, Grace Netherton & Lillith Netherton, of Tallahassee, FL and Eric Netherton (Gretchen) and their three children, Jackson Netherton, William Netherton, & Harper Lee Netherton, of Greensboro, NC; he is also survivedby his sister, Willa Jean Hughes of Albuquerque, NM, a cousin Fred Netherton (Mary) of Kansas City, a niece Debbie Carman of Albuquerque, sister-in-laws Dorothy McCray, Fran Meek (Dave), and Marge Kentzinger (Earl). In addition, he is survived by many friends from Holy Family Catholic Church of Blakely and many daylily friends of Jim and Mary's Peace on Earth Daylily Gardens.
We will honor Jim with a visitation service from 5-7 pm on Sunday December 6th at Manry- Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home and a funeral mass on Monday, December 7th at 10am at Holy Family Catholic Church.
