Janis Barrentine Still, 87, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely. Janis was born in Blakely on April 28, 1935 to Pete and Avadell Branch Barrentine. She was a graduate of Blakely Union High School and was office manager for Dr. James H. Crowdis for many years. She was a long time member o Zion Freewill Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Blakely Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star and Peter Early Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Janis was preceded in death by her husband, John Millard Still, her parents and siblings. She is survived by three daughters: Stephanie Still Whitehead and her husband James G. Whitehead; Melanie Still Alexander and her husband Mickey W. Alexander; and, Teresa Still Hattaway and her husband James F. Hattaway. She was the proud grandmother of Michael Conner, Jennifer W. Thompson, Wes Fincher, Caroline W. Herrington, Kendall A. Alderman, Jamie W. Cox, Ali F. Moseley, and John Alexander. And, proud great grandmother to: Mac Cox, Zac Alderman, Olin Thompson, Lanie Conner, Wyc Herrington, Reid Conner, Libba Cox, Cade Alderman, James Thompson, Lucy Herrington, Gatlin Moseley, and Ruby Moseley. Visitation(10am) and funeral services (11am) will be held on Monday, October 17 at Zion Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. William Smith officiating and Dr. Alex Howell and Duane Davis will do the music. Interment will follow at Sowhatchee Cemetery with Michael Conner, Wes Fincher, John Alexander, Judson Herrington, Brent Alderman, Cannon Mosely, Fletcher Thompson and Mac Cox serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion Freewill Baptist Church of the American Heart Association.
