James Thomas Willis

August 23, 1938 — May 27, 2018

Jim Willis, 79 of Huntsville, AL, passed away at his home on Sunday May 27, 2018. James Thomas Willis Sr. (known by friends and family as Jim or Jimmy) was born on August 23, 1938 in Blakely GA to the late Linton S. Willis Sr. and Ruby Nicholson Willis. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loving and devoted husband for almost 56 years to his late wife, Betty Jane Tedder Willis.

He served his country in the Air Force. Jim enjoyed his career, especially his time at the Army Corp of Engineers as the Branch Chief of Professional Development Center. He served as a teacher and deacon at Hillwood Baptist Church and later as a deacon at Whitesburg Baptist Church. He loved golf, woodworking, reading, computers and playing dominoes.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, James T. Willis Jr. (Gayle) of Dallas TX; daughter, Janet W. Jones (Michael) of Huntsville AL; granddaughters, Rachel Willis of Los Angeles CA, Chloe and Jordan Willis of Dallas TX.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Valhalla Funeral Home. Memorial services, conducted by Dr. Jimmy Jackson, will be at 11:00 am in Valhalla's Chapel. Interment will be Friday, June 1, 2018 at Blakely Cemetery in Blakely GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gideons International Bibles in his honor. www.gideon.org
