James "Mac" Gaines passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2019 surrounded by family.He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Juanita; his son Brett Gaines and wife Fiona (Palm Coast, FL); his son Kevin Gaines and wife Gina (Albany, GA); daughter Leigh Anne Collins and husband Drew (Edison, GA); his grandchildren Allison Gaines (Richmond, VA), Andrew Collins (Edison, GA), Spinks and Sarah Holman (Ponte Vedra, FL), Lorie and Beau Clenney (Blakely, GA);5 great-grandchildren; and siblings Para Pasche (Mansfield, TX) and Wayne Gaines (Newport News, VA).
He joins in heaven his mother, Ruby Giddens Gaines and father, Clyde Gaines; his siblings Clyde Gaines Jr, Roy Gaines, Elise Cole, and Dorothy Gaines; and his beloved bulldog Sugar Lou.
He enjoyed being an active member of Arlington Baptist Church by serving as a Deacon, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.
He loved sports of all kinds, but especially enjoyed University of Georgia football, the Atlanta Braves, and Southwest Georgia Academy athletics.He spent many years serving as a referee, umpire and a coach.
He loved working every day at Bostwick Banking Company and First State Bank of Arlington for 52 years.
To quote our beloved Mac, he just ‘wanted to spend time with "Friends, Family and Loved Ones." So please join us at Arlington Baptist Church on Thursday, February 28th at 4pm for visitation followed by a service at 5:30 pm with Dr. Gary Haden officiating.Honorary pallbearers will be former and current employees of First State Bank.
