Ileen was born in Pierce County Georgia on September 21, 1934 to the late Jasper Henry and Laura Kitchens Mobley. She was an active member of the Arlington Baptist Church where she served on several ministries. She attended Berry College in Rome Georgia, majoring in early childhood education and began a 34-year teaching career upon her graduation in 1956. Ileen taught first graders for 34 years, touching the lives of countless children and their families before her retirement in 1993. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings; Jackson, Stanford and Eulita.
Ileen is survived by her husband (Roy) of 61 years and four sons; Mark (AJ), of Rome, GA., Mike (Nan), of Arlington, GA., Robin (Lindy), of Huntsville, AL., and Robert (Beth) of Bedford, NH. She has two brothers; James of Fostoria, OH, and Eugene (Tommie) of Blakely, GA.She was extremely proud of her ten grandchildren as evidenced by the volumes of photographs and memorabilia capturing their childhoods around the Stuart house.
She was known for her passion for working with the children's ministry for many years while at Arlington Baptist, and also for her dedication to the hospitality team. As part of the "Casserole Brigade," she stood ready to provide for others during their hour of need. Her turnip greens were legendary around the church and the community, as many people tried to copy her "recipe", but could never get the taste that Mrs. Ileen was able to achieve.
She leaves behind a legacy that is a portrait of who she was by raising a Godly family and passing along this gift as their inheritance. This was the hallmark characteristic of her life – "service to others".
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution be made to Kindred Hospice, 232 Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA398 or to the memorial fund at Arlington Baptist Church.
