Hilton Echols "Hut" Hightower, Jr., 74, of 2090 Giles Hightower Rd., Blakely, GA passed away Friday evening, May 18, 2018 at his residence. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Alex Howell officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation starting at 1 o'clock in the Social Hall. A private, family only, burial will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery, Damascus, GA. Active Pallbearers will be Eugene "Little Man" Menette, Nelson Hattaway, Jeromey Gillespie, Sam Hattaway, Earl Middleton, Tommy Sasser, Ron Wilson and J. W. Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Brownlee, Phil Clinkscales, Judge Tracy Moulton, Dr. Butch Mulherin and Jimmy Sealy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Youth Fund at P. O. Box 265, Blakely, GA 39823.
Hut was born on December 31, 1943 in Cuthbert, GA to the late Hilton Echols Hightower, Sr. and Thelma "T" Duke Hightower. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a retired farmer, former member of the National Guard. Hut attended Culver Military Academy in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated in 1961. He also was a graduate of the University of Georgia, having received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.
His survivors include his wife: Mary Jo Boswell Hightower of Blakely, 3 children: Amy Hightower Dent and husband Joseph of Albany, GA, Hilton E. Hightower, III and wife Elizabeth of Tallahassee, FL, Kimberly Herring Cook of Atlanta, GA and a brother: Robert LeSueur "Bob" Hightower of Blakely, GA. Hut also has 7 grandchildren: Mary Larkin Carden and Gracen Amelia Carden, both of Albany, GA; Sophia Katherine Hightower, Ava Theresa Hightower and Lily Hilton Hightower, all of Tallahassee, FL; Herrin Boswell Cook and Benjamin Hayden Cook, III, both of Atlanta, Ga.
