Herman Hoyle White

October 26, 1933 — April 7, 2022

Herman Hoyle White, 88, of Blakely, GA, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on the morning of Thursday April 7, 2022. Hoyle was born in Donalsonville, GA, October 26, 1933. He graduated from Blakely Union High School in 1951. Hoyle played football his senior year and was in the FFA Quartet, winning awards at the State level. After high school, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for 6 months before enlisting in the United States Navy. Hoyle proudly served his country from April 8, 1952 to March 2, 1956, traveling to Japan and Korea before returning home to Blakely. He worked a few years for St. Regis Paper Company, then, in 1966, he went to work at Great Southern Paper Company. His career there began as a scale house operator, then cruising timber with the Woodlands Division and on to growing pines in the nursery, retiring in 1991. On August 5, 1956, he met the love of his life, Myra Lay, and on Sept 21, 1956, they were married. After the Navy, Hoyle enjoyed singing in the Waylighters Quartet with Larry Middleton, Herbert Edge Sims, Talice Hinson, and pianist Tommy Hayes. As his watch tan-line attested, he loved the outdoors. Hoyle spent many hours farming, tending cows, and fishing. Hoyle and Myra passed many fond hours camping at Cotton Hill and DeFuniak Springs and traveling by train, plane, motorhome and car to Niagara Falls, Oregon, Alaska, Key West, and many other places in between. Hoyle was not gregarious with his words nor ostentatious with his actions, but instead quietly and consistently demonstrated his love of the Lord and his love for his family through his dedication and commitment to both. Of the Baptist faith, Hoyle was a member of White Plains Freewill Baptist Church where he taught an adult Sunday school class for 30 years. He then moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Blakely, Georgia where he could be counted on to teach Sunday school when needed, and was most recently a member at Sowhatchee Baptist Church. When it came to his family, he demonstrated his love in the same humble way, by being present and serving in any way needed. Hoyle was preceded in death by his father Simeon Alphonso (S. A.) White, mother Marie Lindsey White, an infant brother Hiram W. White, and twin brothers Harry and Warren White. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Myra L. White, his sons Victor H. White (Cindy) and Christopher L. White, his grandchildren Jennifer White, Joanna W. Braswell (Jeff), S. Adam White, and Daniel H. White, and great-grandchildren Carma Hester, Isabella Hester, Wyatt Hester, and Myra Kay Braswell. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Ann White, sisters-in-law Judy L. White and Sue L. White, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His funeral service will be Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Sowhatchee Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at White Plains Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Hoyle’s nephews, Warren, Bill, Jack, Harry, Jon, and Danny serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, Hoyle’s family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St Jude Children’s Hospital or Gideons International. The family would like to extend special thanks to the kind staff of Open Arms Hospice of Colquitt, Georgia.
