Herbert Edge Sims, 86, of 1762 Second Kolomoki Road, Blakely, Ga 39823, passed away Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019 at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2019 at 11 AM at the Blakely Church of Christ with Mr. Danny Brewer and Mr. Sam Cook officiating. The United States Navy Funeral Detail members will fold the flag and present it to Mrs. Sims at the close of the service. After the service,the family and anyone else who would like to, can go to the Blakely cemetery as the family is going just to have a prayer at his burial site. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary from 10 AM until the service time at 11 AM.
Mr. Sims was born on January 28, 1932 in Troy, Alabama to the late William Herbert Sims and Laura Frances Carter Sims. He was the Owner/Operator of Sims Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of peanut shelling and cleaning equipment. He was a member of the Blakely Church of Christ. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 through 1954 and
served on the USS Missouri Battleship. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter at birth: Cynthia Ruth Sims and by a sister: LeMay Sims Merritt.
His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruth Pickeral Sims, 2 daughters: Judy Sims Enfinger (Johnny) of Blakley, GA and Janet Sims of Cordele, GA; one son, Gary Sims of Blakely, Ga; a sister, Ann Sims Stone of Blakely, GA. He also has 4 grandchildren; Neil Enfinger (Casidy) and Amy Tucker (Jaa) all of Blakely, Adam Sims of Cordele, GA and Chase Sims of Lapine, AL and 5 great grandchildren: Owen and Brody Enfinger, Kacen and Cooper Sims and Payton Tucker.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Kindred Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 39819, or to your church or favorite charity.
