Harold Harvey Hobbs, 76, of Blakely passed away on Thursday, July 09, 2020, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held in Blakely Cemetery on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lyle Brackin officiating and Harold Still, Dan Harris, Jim Pope, Hank Jester, DeWain Morgan, and Alan Braswell serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
Hal was born August 06, 1943 in Early County, GA to the late William Earl and Mildred Cannon Hobbs.He was a '61 graduate of Blakely Union High School.Upon completing his associate degree at ABAC, Hal continued his education at the University of Georgia where he studied engineering while training in a co-op program with Georgia Power Co.After fourteen years with the power company, he attended Atlanta Law School and was admitted to the bar in '77.Hal practiced law in Arlington and Blakely until retirement in addition to serving as a Special Assistant Attorney General for twenty-three years,
Hal was a life-long outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing among numerous other related hobbies.A client and life-long friend once said, "If fish bait and ammunition were free, Hal would never work a day".Hal also enjoyed ridingmotorcycles, especially fast ones, and was passionate about "piddling", going as far as to charter and elect himself President of the Early County Piddler's Association where he enjoyed creating and sharing cedar arrowheads, worry stones and walking sticks.He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and "candy-man" at Arlington Baptist Church until he moved to Blakely in 1997 and began serving at First Baptist Church of Blakely. Hal was also a member of Blakely Gideon Camp for many years.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Saundra "Sandy" Saunders Hobbs; his son, Clayton "Clay" Cannon Hobbs and his wife Heather of Commerce, GA; his daughter, Amille "Amy" Kathleen Hobbs and her husband Shane Willoughby of Atlanta; a brother, Charles Dewey Hobbs and his wife Holley of Blakely; five grandchildren, Jake, Grace, Carson, Dayana, and Halen; and numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Earle Hobbs Pitts.
The Hobbs family would like to thank Darlene Morris, Mary Jane Felch, Becky Maestas and the rest of the Kindred Hospice staff for their help and loving care.
