Guyton "Guy" Owen Jones

Guyton “Guy” Owen Jones, 89, of Blakely, Georgia passed away August 17, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Mercer and Dr. Alex Howell officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chris Wild, Garrett Bennett, Jeff Wild, George Hartley, Mike Boyd, Greg McFay, Ernie Ford, and Edd Easom. Honorary pallbearers are the Southside Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class. Interment will follow at Blakely Cemetery. Guy was born September 18, 1934 to the late Lester Byron “Casey” Jones and Frances Owen Jones in Blakely, Georgia. He was born deaf, but never considered himself handicapped. Guy graduated from the Georgia School for the Deaf, where he played football. He worked for the City of Blakely for 37 years as a meter reader. Guy was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending the Men’s Sunday School Class. Guy was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and Saturdays in the fall you could find him cheering on his Bulldogs or any team playing against Auburn. In addition to his parents, Guy was predeceased by his brothers; Sid, Tom, and George Jones. He is survived by his sister, Frances Coleman, sister-in-law, Ann Jones of Tampa, Florida, nieces and nephews, Chris Wild (Debra) of The Villages, Florida, Jeff Wild (Trish) of Tampa, Florida, Erich Jones (Lori) of Frazeysburg, Ohio, and Amy Jones of Pierson, Michigan. Guy is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southside Baptist Church in memory of Guy. Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
