Gloria Sammons Martin, 81, of 147 Oklahoma Street, Blakely, GA39823, passed away at her home on Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2017.Her funeral will be Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Colomokee Baptist Church with Rev. T. J. Bennett officiating.Visitation will be at 10:00 A. M.
before the service with burial in church cemetery following the service.Active pallbearers will be Chet Chester, Johnny Gilbert, Mason Love, Joe King, Guerry Burnett, Scott Sammons, Dan Wasdin and Gene Martin.Honorary pallbearers are Arlen Chapman, David Wilson, Larry Enfinger, Tom Kennedy, John Merritt, Ray Bostwick and Paul Betros.
Mrs. Martin was born in Early County, Georgia on October 23, 1935 to the late Floyd Sammons and Altea Sirmons Sammons.She was a Class of 1953 graduate of Blakely Union High School serving as class salutatorian and was also named class historian her senior year.
Her passion in life was her love for her husband, her children, her grandchildren, family, friends, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.She also loved the game of golf and became quite good at it.She and her golfing buddies enjoyed playing golf all over the Southeast winning many trophies and awards.Her favorite golf story was telling of hitting a hole-in-one two months after undergoing double heart valve replacement over 35 years ago.She and her friends spent many fun times playing golf and in the last few years reminiscing about all their golf capers.She was a member of Colomokee Baptist Church
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Elwood Martin, Jr. and two brothers, Roger Keith Sammons and Robert Deal Sammons.Her survivors include two sons, Clarence E. Martin, III and James David Martin and wife, Bronwyn Ragan Martin.There are three grandsons, Jarrett, Atticus, and Christian Martin and one granddaughter, Julia Martin.She is survived by one sister, Carol S. Chester, and one brother, Verna F. Sammons and his wife, Vivian Bush Sammons.She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
