George "Scaper" Lowell Davis, 75, of 401 Flint Ave., Albany, GA 31701 passed away Thursday evening, June 21, 2018 at the Pruitthealth/Palmyra Nursing Home in Albany, Ga. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday morning, June 26, 2018 at 11 AM in the Pickle Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family members for a visitation starting at 9:30 AM Tuesday morning at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home and then go in a procession to the cemetery for the service at 11. Rev. Sterling Jones and Larry Hample from Albany Rescue Mission will be officiating the service. Pallbearers will be Earl Conley, Ned Taylor, Robert and Thomas Alexander.
George was born on August 15, 1942 in Blakely, GA to the late George Auburn "Byrd" Davis and Mary Etteen Temples Davis. He was a former carpenter in construction having worked for the Austin Bridge Co. of Louisiana before moving to Albany, GA in 1973. He worked at Georgia Pacific, DCSS and retired from the Gray Communication/Albany Heraldcirculation department. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Linda Davis Sims and by 3 brothers: Buck, Billy and Tony Davis.
His survivors include a daughter: Sharon Lynn Haydel of Ponchatoula, LA,4 sisters: Peggy Willoughby of Dothan, AL, Loretta Alexander of Albany, GA, Betty Sue Varnum of Port St. Joe and Barbara Jean Barron and John of Blakely, GA, a brother: Jimmy Davis and Alice of Canton, GA and 2 grandchildren, Alston and Kirsten. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
