Evelyn White Powell, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on Friday, March 14, 2025, at her residence in Blakely, GA. Evelyn was born on Monday, August 14th, 1939, in Pelham, Georgia. Evelyn was a dedicated paraprofessional with the Early County School System in Blakely, GA, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness and commitment to education. A devoted member of Zion Free Will Baptist Church, Evelyn was actively involved in the Ladies Auxiliary and served as a past Sunday School teacher, sharing her faith and wisdom with all who knew her. Her unwavering faith and love for her church and her family were the cornerstones of her life. Evelyn is survived by her children: Beth Johnston (Bobby) of Echo, AL; David Powell (Wendy) of Blakely, GA; Wayne Powell (Trish) of Blakely, GA; and Peggy Jackson (Steve) of Blakely, GA. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her siblings: Eunice Waller of Blakely, GA; Rodney White (Shirley) of Valdosta, GA; and Laura Musgrove of Colquitt, GA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, William Cefus Powell, her parents, Boyd and Susie White, a grandson, Lucus Johnston, and siblings Linda Bryan, Diane Brock, Carolyn Glass Tommy White, and Sarah Glover. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Evelyn's life at a funeral service on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Zion Free Will Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by Rev. Michael Williams and Rev. William Smith. Visitation will be held at the Zion Fellowship Hall prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers are Arthur Brackin, Jeffery Brackin, Phil Buckhalter, Tim Bundrick, Mack Senn, Mark Still, Donnie White, Ronnie Willis, Don Jarvis, Johnny Still, Jason Williams and Billy Wilson. Arrangements are being handled by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Evelyn's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Free Will Baptist Church Operation Christmas Child Fund or First Baptist Church of Blakely Operation Christmas Child Fund. Evelyn White Powell will be remembered for her steadfast love for the Lord, a love she poured into every stitch she sewed for her friends, family, and strangers. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she will be remembered for the love and grace she freely extended to all she knew.
