Edythe Ione Bowen Roberts (90) of Blakely passed away on March 2, 2024. Her funeral will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely with graveside at Blakely Cemetery with grandson Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons Dan Williams, Neal Roberts, Coy Roberts, Kadison Roberts, Caleb Williams, Tyler Williams and Tanner Williams. Edye was born on March 9, 1933 in Ludlow, South Dakota to Eldridge Milton and Irene Helen Weisz Bowen. She was raised in Sturgis, South Dakota. She worked at the phone company in Sturgis after high school. She married William Timothy Roberts, Sr. (Billy) on June 5, 1952. They met when he was stationed at Elsworth Air Force Base. She spent time in Blakely and Sturgis while Billy was deployed to North Africa during the Korean Conflict. They also lived in Ft. Worth until discharge from the Air Force, when they made their home in Blakely. They were married for almost 60 years at the time of Billy’s death in 2011. Edye was an avid artist utilizing oils, water colors, and acrylics. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, including making over 75 mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. She also participated in the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox ministry and the Christmas Backpack ministry, as well as other Christian ministries. Edye was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Blakely. Edye was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Timothy Roberts, Sr., 2 sons, Reuben Milton Roberts and William Timothy Roberts, Jr. and 2 brothers Virgil Bowen and Gene Bowen (Mertie). Survivors include one daughter Vickie Lea Roberts Williams and husband Danny. 6 Grandchildren - Dan Williams, Michael Williams (Meghan), Neal Roberts (Deborah), Coy Roberts (Erin), Jesselea Roberts (Dovid), Kadison Roberts (Savannah). 5 Great-grandchildren - Caleb Williams, Tyler Williams, Tanner Williams, Hayley Williams, Bowen Williams. One brother - Tom Bowen (Lela), Sister-in-law Georgia Bowen, and many nieces and nephews.
