Edwin Wayne Goocher, Sr

April 4, 1944 — May 23, 2022

Edwin Wayne Goocher, SR, 78, passed away May 23, 2022, at his home in Blakely, GA surrounded by his family following a brief illness. A private family memorial service will be held at his residence, the place he most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The service will be officiated by Brother Sterling Jones. Wayne was born on April 4, 1944, at Hollands Hospital in Early County to the late Shelly and Martha Goocher of Blakely. He attended Blakely Union School through the 8th grade and then worked alongside his father on the family farm located on Howard Landing Road. He married his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth (Betty) on September 26, 1962, at the home of Reverend Earnest B. Coon in Arlington, Georgia. Wayne spent his career of 38 years as a Paper Maker and Recycle Operator at the Georgia Pacific Cedar Springs Georgia operation. He loved to fish, hunt, gather arrow heads, collect antiques, take rides out in the country, and spend time with family. Wayne gave his life to the Lord at the age of 33. When presented with the opportunity, he was quick to share The Word of God with loved ones or strangers met along the way. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Betty, of Blakely; children Susan (Robert) Chapman, Wayne Goocher, JR (Terry), Amy (Paul) Bates, and Tammy (Bryan) Hall; brother Shelly (Peggy) Goocher, and sisters Amelia (George) Easom, Adrianne Slappy, and Gwen (Robert) Weeks; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and many more that were not blood relatives. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Thomas, and great grandson, Bryan Hall, JR. The family of Wayne Goocher wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Kindred Hospice of Blakely.
