Derrell Palmer passed away at Miller County Hospital Monday evening, November 28, 2016.His funeral will be Thursday, December 1, at 11 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Blakely, GA with Rev. Rick Smith officiating and burial following at Blakely Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Jordan Heath, Jarrett Heath, Don Paul, Chad Mock, Rick Hall and R. L. Moore.Visitation will be on Wednesday night, November 30 form 6 to 8 p.m. at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home.
Mr. Palmer was born on February 25, 1932 in Blakely, Georgia to the late Wesley Wyatt Palmer and Ada Johnson Palmer.He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.He retired from Georgia Telephone Company as a telephone installer/repairman.He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served as a City Council Member and Mayor pro-teem, Fire Chief and Chairman for Fire and Police committee for the city of Whigham, GA.In Blakely he was commander VFW, Sr. Vice Commander VFW, Jr. Vice Commander American Legion and Sr. Vice commander of American Legion.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Willene Bell Palmer, a daughter, Cindy Monday and a sister,Nina P. Paul.
His survivors include; two daughters, Tammy Ingram (Dan) and Tonya Heath (Jimmy) all of Blakely, a brother, Ralph Palmer,St. Cloud, Florida .There are 6 grandchildren:Denise Miller (Bart), Jordan, Whitney and Jarrett Heath all of Blakely, Hope Cox (Art) of Homewood, Alabama and Holly Wiggins (Colin), Daphne, Alabama, and one great granddaughter, Siena Grace Cox.
