John Chester Houston,95, passed away this morning, Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Early Memorial Nursing Home, Blakely, GA.His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Mac Enfinger and Rev. Robert Mitchell officiating.Burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10 a.m. until the funeral time at 11 a.m.Pallbearers will be Graham Harvin, Jimmy Helton, Mal Freeman, Brett Houston, David Cleveland, Keith Houston, Hunter Evans and Stan Houston.
Mr. Houston was born on October 24, 1921 in Blakely, GA to the late Homer Cyrus Houston, Sr. and Laura Emma Mock Houston. He was an automobile salesman for over 35 years, a member of the Southside Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Hilda Houston King and by 6 brothers: Bill, Charlie, Bob, Bruce, Homer, Jr. and Max Houston.
His survivors include his wife of 70 years, Thelma Evans Houston of Blakely, GA; 2 sons, Craig Houston and Julie of W. Columbia, SC, Scott Houston and Susan of Hoover, AL;2 sisters, Betty Strickland of Ashford, AL and Eugenia Redding of Ft. Valley, GA and a brother; Stanley Houston and Linda of Blakely. He has 3 grandchildren; Mark Houston and Ashley of Chapin, SC, Lauren Wilson and Addison of Beaufort, SC and Greg Houston, Jr. and Stephanie of Houston, TX. His 6 great grandchildren are Addison Wilson, III, Houston Wilson, Emily Ruth Wilson, all of Beaufort, SC; Evans Houston and Mae Caroline Houston, both of Chapin, SC and Tripp Houston of Houston, TX.Many nieces and nephews also survive.
