Catherine Winters Mosely Still
On Monday, November 21, 2016, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, Catherine Winters Mosely Still, was called to her eternal home and was ushered by the Angels into God's presence.For all of us who were blessed by her beautiful life, her contagious love, her sweet, quiet, caring spirit and her Lord's witness, we are eternally grateful to God for sharing her with us.Born in Blakely, Georgia, on December 9, 1911, she was the daughter of Corean Reed Mosely and Clarence Wilson Mosely and became part of one of the country's most beloved generations.
She attended Hilton Elementary School, Hilton, Georgia, as well as schools in Oklahoma and Florida; she graduated from Blakely-Union High School in 1932 and Perry Business School in 1959.She served as an officer in the Blakely Chapter Order of Eastern Star, was a member of the Peter Early Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Blakely Historical Society.As an active member of the community, she served as president of the Parent-Teacher Association and Home Demonstration Club, was a Voting Poll Assistant for both city and county elections and was a devoted volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Bank for many years.Catherine was employed as secretary to Sheriff Tuck Swann and later served as bookkeeper at Early Memorial Hospital.
A devoted and faithful member of Zion Freewill Baptist Church her entire life, she served in numerous capacities that include Sunday School Teacher, Ladies' Auxiliary, Flower Committee and Church Choir.She personified the Proverbs 31 woman, "working tirelessly and selflessly to honor her Heavenly Father."
As an active resident of Manor House for Senior Living (originally Summers Landing), Douglas, Georgia, since 2004, she was an inspiration and joy to all of her friends and family.She passionately loved Jesus and desired more than anything to be a blessing to others.She considered her greatest accomplishment in life to be that of rearing her five daughters.
Catherine was a devoted wife to her husband, Hollis Crozier Still, who predeceased her.She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Mosely Harper and Bernice Mosely Still; a brother, Clarence Wilson Mosely, Jr.; two sons-in-law, Robert Rudolph McLendon and James Spottswood (Jim) Tardy; and a great grandson, Stephen Harrison Ginn.
Survivors include her five daughters and their spouses:Ellen Still Meadors (Larry), Covington, Georgia; Claire Still Tardy (Jim, deceased), Athens, Georgia; Kay Still Burt (Hilliard), Albany, Georgia; Gail Still Kirkland (Thomas), Douglas, Georgia; and Cathy Still Scarborough (Paige), Athens, Georgia; eleven grandchildren: Todd and Jeff Meadors; Chip and Bob Tardy and Robin Tardy Ginn; Mitch McLendon; Tommy Kirkland, Lori Kirkland O'Neal and Holly Kirkland Hoch; and Chris Scarborough and Leigh Scarborough Laughlin; twenty-two great grandchildren, special nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration service honoring Catherine will be held at Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Blakely, Georgia, at 1 p. m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, with Reverend Barry Hedrick and Dr. Alex Howell officiating.Interment will follow at the Blakely Cemetery, Blakely, Georgia. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Freewill Baptist Church, 856 Zion Road, Blakely, GA39823.
Pallbearers are Chip and Bob Tardy, Mitch McLendon, Tommy Kirkland and Chris Scarborough.
The family would like to thank Catherine's most wonderful, caring private caretakers including Anita Douglas, Janet Davis and Lessie White as well as the attentive and caring staff at Manor House for their love, dedication and compassion as they provided special care for her during her residency.
