Byron Edgar "Scrap" Hayes, 81, of 903 Chattahoochee Ave., Blakely, GA passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2 PM at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Williams and Rev. Ralph Estes officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation starting at 1 PM in the church's social hall. Burial will follow for Mr. Hayes's ashes in the Blakely Cemetery.

Byron "Scrap" Hayes was born on October 10, 1935 in Blakely, GA to the late James Edgar Hayes and Sadie Harris Hayes. Scrap was retired from the City of Blakely after 34 years of service as a supervisor for the dispatchers' office and he also was a meter reader for many years when Blakely had the coin operated meters to be able to park in downtown Blakely. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Clara Nell "Skeeter" Jarrett,a brother: Buddy Hayes and a son-in-law, Michael Howard.

His survivors include his wife: Rebecca Louise "Becky" Davis Hayes, a daughter: Lynn Howard and 5 grandchildren: Dusty James Howard, Shaun Michael Howard, Cody Ryan Howard, Cameron Hayes Howard and Brittany Rena Howard, all of Blakely, GA.
