Ann Collier Alexander, 89, a lifetime resident of Early County, passed away on September 4, 2017 at Early Memorial Nursing Home in Blakely, Georgia."Miss Ann" was born in Damascus, Ga., on February 11, 1928 to the late Sylvester Jefferson Collier and Dykes Lewis Collier of Damascus, Georgia.
She graduated from Damascus High School and attended the Women's College of Georgia.On July 28, 1948, she married Norman Clinkscales Alexander from Blakely.They were married 47 years until his death on July 20, 1996.The communities in which she lived were enriched by her love of school, the church and its ministry.As a school volunteer, she directed one act plays, accompanied trios, quartets and soloists in competitions, decorated for proms, dances and other school functions.She taught Sunday School for years, served as church pianist at First Baptist Church of Damascus and later, First Baptist Church of Blakely.As chairman of the Court Square Arts Council, she wrote grants and worked tirelessly to raise funds to bring the fine arts to Blakely.
She is survived by three children; Angie Alexander Smith of Dade City, Fl., Norman C. Alexander, Jr. (Shirley) of Blakely, Ga., and Jefferson Collier Alexander (Felicia) of Americus, Ga.; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the social hall of First Baptist Church of Blakely, Georgia.A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church sanctuary with Reverend Keith Alderman officiating.
