(visitation 10:00-11:00 A.M.) on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Salam Cemetery in Edison, Georgia with Rev. Keith Gaines officiating. He then attended Georgia Southern College in Statesboro and majored in Business Administration.
As his older sister Ann and younger sister Becky, at an early age since their mother worked at the Hardware store, the Manry children were "raised" there also. They clerked, took inventory, weighed nails, made change, wrapped packages, etc. When they sat down, they sat on a stack of cotton sheets or peanut sacks, for the 2 rockers were reserved for Daddy and older customers.Other customers/friends sat outside the side door on the Community Bench. A treat for Edward and Becky was attending the Edison Theater each Saturday at 2 PM, watching newsreels, cartoons, and westerns (several times), eating with .50 between them, then leaving the theater at dark. This was a joy, and a great babysitter for their mother also. All 3 Albert Manry children took college-prep Science and Mathematics courses at Edison High School/Calhoun County High School, and since their aunt Miss Merrille Manry was the teacher, the 8 Manry nieces and nephews had no choice in this matter. However, their college courses were much, much easier as a result, and several of the children grew to love and persue Math and Science as careers. The Ann, Edward, and Becky also became more avid readers, as they aged, and particularly loved Historical Fiction.
Due to his father's failing health, Edward returned to Edison and was a third generation Manry at Manry Hardware Company to manage and later own the business. He also joined the Army Reserves in Wetumpka, Alabama as a member of the 375th. General Support Group for 6 years and ranked as a SP-.4. Edward was a lifelong attendee and member of the Edison Baptist Church. Years later, he sold the Hardware store and began selling Life, Accident, and Health insurance with American General Insurance. A few years later he was transferred to Salisbury, North Carolina where he continued insurance sales until retirement. He then volunteered for "Meals on Wheels" for years and enjoyed visiting and chatting with the housebound senior citizens besides food delivery. Later he worked in the office where he managed the paperwork for recipients.Besides his parents, Edward's sister Ann Manry Estabrook Hodge of Aberdeen, Washington preceded him in death.
